What is Rainbow Manor?

Rainbow Manor provides affirming housing for queer and trans people (18+) in Edmonton, Alberta.

We offer a range of housing options (Rainbow Manor 1, Rainbow Manor 2, Rainbow Manor 3), depending on the unique needs of the individual and the level of care required to be successful in their housing.

Rainbow Manor 1 (Independent Group Living)

6 bedroom home that offers transitional housing for 2SLGBTQ+ adults (18+).

A typical resident at this home includes the following:

  • Requires little support and can live independently (5.0+ on ACLS)
  • Independent with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs)
  • Mental health is reasonably stable and well managed.
  • Independent with medications / medical appointments
  • Little to no involvement with the criminal justice system.
  • No significant substance use and/or high-risk behaviors.

Rainbow Manor 2 (Family Support Home)

Many 2SLGBTQ+ adults have endured significant trauma and hardship in their lives and we recognize that many of our community members cannot live independently. Whether the need for a higher level of support is temporary or permanent for you, we want to work with you to ensure you have a safe place to live. We will try to match you with a host family.

A typical resident at this home includes the following:

  • Requires supportive housing (4.8 or lower on ACLS)
  • Requires assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADL)
  • Requires assistance with medication and attending appointments
  • Mental health is moderately to reasonably stable
  • Little to no involvement with the criminal justice system.
  • No illicit drug use or involvement with high risk behaviors.
  • Low risk of harm to self or others. 

Rainbow Manor 3 (Harm Reduction House)

Many 2SLGBTQ+ adults have endured significant trauma and hardship in their lives and we recognize that many of our community members cannot live independently. Whether the need for a higher level of support is temporary or permanent for you, we want to work with you to ensure you have a safe place to live. If you are struggling with your mental health and/or addictions concerns that impact your ability to live independently this home offers some extra support to you on your recovery journey.

A typical resident at this home includes the following:

  • Requires supportive housing (4.8 or lower on ACLS)
  • Requires assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADL)
  • Requires assistance with medication and attending appointments
  • Mental health is unstable but open to connecting with supports
  • Moderate risk of harm to self or others (safety plan in place)
  • Active use of illicit substances and/or high-risk behaviors

Residents will be supported to work towards transitioning to independence.

Why was Rainbow Manor created?

Safe housing is a human right. Rainbow Manor was created to create equitable access to housing and reduce systemic barriers for wellness in queer and trans populations.

Who can apply to live at Rainbow Manor?

We prioritize queer and trans people who are at risk of homelessness or are currently facing homelessness.

How much does it cost to live at Rainbow Manor?

Rainbow Manor 1

Rent includes all utilities (power, water, heat, internet, and cable television).

Residents are responsible to pay for their own food and personal items.

Rates at Rainbow 2 & Rainbow Manor 3 are determined on a case-by-case basis, depending on the level of support required.

What expectations are required for Rainbow Manor residents?

Residents should be able to respectfully engage with individuals from diverse cultures as we welcome residents from all walks of life (abilities, races, ethnicities, sexual orientations, gender identities, religions).
